Work work workshop

Been attending to a workshop about digital art. I thought it would be refreshing to actually work with some photoshop stuff, and the teacher who I have had before in other classes, is rather amazing at working in photoshop and even in 3Ds Max. We had some fun stuff to do, but last night we began working on a potrait of whoever we want to draw. I havent had that much trouble drawing humans in Photoshop, but it is still hard to make them look "perfect".
I just finished on my part of the task. I am rather proud of the result even though my version looks very different from the picture I used.

In my version she looks much older and has a longer face. She looks a bit too... hmm manly? Atleast she looks rather young and such. My favorite part of the picture is the hair. I have always had a hard time to make hair look proper, but this time around I actually made it good enough for my liking. Last time I did that, was when I made that group picture of my character from that silly fantasy story.

This one to be exact. :P I hated the hair on the other characters, but the big ass elven head is obviously the one you should look at. Just like the picture above, I started off with a base color and made each strand and make dark shades and such. It gives such a nice effect in the end, but it can be hard to make it "perfect".

Anyway, I am on a roll so I will probably spam like an idiot (...not) with stuff like this. Also! I certainly did not forget about the "draw a drawing each day" thingmajing, even though I didnt draw for a couple of days... *cough*... I still got some nice stuff done that Iwill try and scan and post on the blog. :)

The December race is on-going

So, after suffering from post-traumatic stress after the return from le America, I think I am back on track and I have challened myself into a duel challenge to make a new artwork every day in december. That's right, EVERY DAY. Guess how many days till I will fail this challene? :P Hopefully none...

I have already made the first sketch for 1st December, I just need to scan it in for all your viewing pleasure (not that this sketch is that remarkable...).

When I have finished all these quickies, I was planning to put them up for a vote and see what people prefer the best, so maybe the 3 most liked drawing will be drawn into a 100% digital picture, you know, the ones that I usually spend min. 5 hours to several months to make, only I will actually pull myself together and do it proper this time around, now that I am working on that portfolio. :P

Talking about pictures, then I suppose it is time to actually post SOMETHING... Looking in my folder with digital art, it seems rather empty, or at least lacking any new proper work since I made that Warlock picture. But here is some sketches I did, and note, they are still work in progress, they are sketches! ( very often used quote by me, "... it's a sketch!" :P)

Brainfart #1: Remember the previous post, the "TL;DR"-one with the endless blabbering about novels that I am working on? These two random models happens to be part of the Sci-Fi one... This is just a draft for what they could be looking like and before pointing and laughing at those silly glass "tanks" on their back, then yes, it is tanks, though their story is that they are part of a cult that uses elixir and drugs to prolong their lives, but the only way to uphold this, they need constant "feeding" of this drug. Thus resulting in wearing clothes that has all these tubes and pipes attached that pumps the shit into their bloodstreams.
What I am rather "proud" of their design is the facepainting. Some might say it seems a bit familiar, maybe a bit too much familiar, which I hope you dont, but in either cases, I'd like to point out that these facepaintings arent anything like magical masks or something like that. They are just as human as everyone else, though they paint their faces to hide their identity and to seem intimidating to their enemies. Even though all members of this cult have different patterns, they are still easily recognizable by anyone.
I will sometime make a better picture that illustrates their final design as part of my portfolio. This was merely a test to see if it actually fit together as I had thought it would in my head. :)

Brainfart #2: This lady here is also in the Sci-fi novel like the two derps above. She is obviously ot from the same team and cult like them; she is one of those "Freedom Fighters" and obviously she is like the "female-character-that-is-following-the-main-character-and-everybody-loves-her-because-of-that"-kind of character, so obviously she is going to seem a bit interesting in some way. I have been wrestling a bit with her design, I wanted her to seem a bit more "free" in her clothing, and not tightened up and stiff like some of the other characters in the story. I like how it looks like so far, but I am still unsure so she is still WIP.

Brainfart #3: Last, but not least (I think), the comic. Yes, I tried to make a comic about one of my favorite games of all time; Mass Effect. This one might seem a bit hard to understand, because no one has in particular seen my ME character, no?
Well, the story is that when I made my main character in ME1, she looked rather good under character creation screen, until I actually started up the game and saw her derp around, ESPECIALLY in profile.I wanted to kill myself so badly, she looked... derp-y. I then just ignored it, because I was happy with everything else, but as soon as I found out that in ME2 that you could import your character and after playing the whole game through with the same face, I just HAD to use the chance to actually change her face to something more pretty...
One thing that I couldnt help but giggle at is the fact that Kaidan, my Shepard's humptoy, was all over her in the first game but in the second game, he didnt even want to touch her. So, what would happen in the third game?
I was just playing on the thought that you could kind of relate Shepard's looks with the way he reacts in the game, even though it is obviously not. :P But hey... if Kaidan isnt nice to me in ME3 then I'd rather go with Garrus!
..... Yeah I am bad at comics.... -.-

Aaaaaand I am back.

So I am finally back from the US, after 4 awesome weeks. :) I havent been that much creative until the last week or so (those will come up soon enough), but I have been a big spender and bought a lot of awesome gifts and of course lots of gifts for myself.

On the other note, I was in an extreme writing mood and suddenly stumbled upon a few things for my future projects. Not alone I need to work my ass off the few months I have left, to work on a portfolio so I can send it in for my dream education, I am also going to work my ass off to make my few stories into something awesomely big. (Which also means that I am going to make some awesome concept art for it and such)

Here is the list so far:

Lemniscate - Fantasy novel, trilogy. (<-- Just recently found a proper name for my novel!)
Progress: Currently writing first book out of three, I am probably around 3-40% done.
There will also be a few short stories that tells the story of certain characters and events that is either mentioned or takes place in the books.
Plot: TerraƤ is an elf warrior, who wakes up on the human lands, only to find out she is being hunted by an unknown force. On top of that, if she's caught, a pact between the humans and the elves may be broken; a full scale war if any of the either treads the lands in any circumstance. The only thing that goes through her mind is to get home as soon as possible, but that is easier said than done...

WIP title - Sci-fi novel, so far only one book.
Progress: Havent begun writing it yet, so far the story will only be one book, maybe two depending on how much of the plot I can work on.
Plot: *Derp* is an anarchist who wish for a better world, but neither of his messages are heard or taken serious. After an attempt to gain the attention of the politicians, he ends up in trouble that could cost him his life. A group of Freedomfighters saves him and promises him protection, only if he will help them use fear and destruction to take down the government...

Broken Soldier - sci-fi novel, one book.
Progress: Written a draft at around 40 pages but it will probably be scrapped and rewritten.
This one is a prologue to the above sc-fi novel and will be a "short" story about a character that will appear in the book.
Plot: Sal Raeven is rascal and a wild child. Living his life on the edge with the wrong company, drugs and alcohol, he suddenly is falsely accused for being a major drug dealer and ends up in prison. Just when he thought his life would get worse, he changes his lifestyle and gets an oppertunity to join the military. Enjoying his new found life, things suddenly begins to change for the worse...

Diabolic - Fantasy comic, three books (if it was a novel). - Collaboration between me and a friend
Progress: development hell. :P Lots of characters, plottwists and other things have been planned but so far no pages has been drawn and no proper planning of the timeline and dialogues have been planned.
Plot: A young man, named Platin, wakes up in an old mans house, just saved from death. The old man tells him of the culprits, the mighty agents of Appoloin Angels, who rules the country. After spending a year with this old man, living the life as if he was his son, a sudden event occurs and Platin can only flee for his life while he sees his only friend dying. Platin swore to avenge his death and find out the truth about his past by bringing down AA.

Damn I suck at writing a proper explanation of the plot.

Seattle!

I am enjoying my time in Seattle while trying to make video games with slightly craptastic internet and with a computer that decides to kill itself every now and then. Oh I gotta love it...

But hey! Seattle is awesome and I have visited a few nice game developers along with my classmates and today is the day where we visit the allmighty Valve. :)

I havent had much time to properly draw and make proper art for my portfolio, but I can see that I need to work my buttarse off to make things work as soon as I get back from the US and back to my wonderful desk. And drawing equipment and my PC... Everything!

Either way, if something pops up, I will ofc post it here on my blog to share with my readers. :)

Good news, everyone!

I am officially employed at an indie game company, founded by my classmates. :) I am looking forward to work with them. We're called ClearCut Games and we are currently developing a new game. Before I joined the "club", they had already released a game for the app store that is still available for purchase. ( http://bit.ly/oTzOxN direct link to iTunes for the game if you own an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch ;)
I am going to be their main 3D artist, but also do some concept art, both traditionally and digitally, if neccesary. This means that I might be spamming with a lot of pictures of my sketches, brainstorms and drawings that I will be hanging around our tiny lil' office. I have already made tons of concept art, but I will post them sometime later. :)

*relieved sigh*

Finally done with my everlasting artwork.... I finally finished my picture of my Warlock character from World of Warcraft in "old" tier set. It has been my favorite for worth a while, so making a drawing was my best way to show it is my favorite (did that some years ago as well, just with the Merciless Gladitor set!)

Anyways, here is the picture!

I am SO proud of this picture, mostly because it contains much more details than many of my other drawings (obviously because I had a reference, if I had to do somethign original which had alot of details, it would just go wrong. :P)
It was before summer that I randomly decided I wanted to draw my warlock in this set, I just made an ugly sketch of my idea and voila! It came out like this... or well not exactly, it looked rather silly with uneven lines and whatever, but I loved the idea so much that I left it to rot for a couple of months! Or that is a little bit exaggerated... but really, the point is I didnt pick it up until the end of the summervacation where I found it and made the outlines for the drawing. I really liked how it came out, but I didnt get to start on the coloring until later. I made some basic coloring which ended up looking really nice. From here on out, I had so much trouble to actually start coloring it, because... *points at the head item* THIS!
It took me a couple of weeks before I finally broke the wall down with my mighty skills of doom, and actually made a shading on the hat that I could live with. It isnt the prettiest ever, but it looks way better than what I came up with before.

Anyways, I hope you will enjoy it! I spent so much time on this one and I gotta say I am really satisfied so I hope those who are actually reading my blog, will check the drawing out. :P

My WoW Character... in old gear!

So, in association with the sudden expectation from Google to use AdWords, I better up to date my blog a little more. :) So here is the work I have been talking about which I have a hard time to finish. There is some basic coloring on it, but I decided to hide it because it looked rather hideous on this unfinished work (especially when I didnt bother to avoid not getting out of the lines... :P).
It is of my World of Warcraft character in the so called "Tier 11" set.. Cant remember the exact name of the set, but if it isnt obvious enough, it looks like medieval executioner in some way. Just add a little bit warlock in it and it'll be fine.

I am very proud of this one, but I have been so frustrated at how I have been trying to color the helm. There just doesnt seem any way where I can color it the way I want it to be colored... Argh! But I just gotta keep trying, I have been busy with school and... World of Warcraft, so I kinda hd put this one to the side. I hope to finish this one as soon as possible, because this one is really one of my favorite so far, even though it's not even finished!
Either way, I hope you enjoy. :)

Thanks Google!

Many thanks to Google for giving me a giftcard so I can use AdWords to advertise for my lil Blog. ;) I suppose that means I should really man myself up and do some more art! Yikes!

New project

So I had been going around thinking of doing a new project. I didnt know what it should be, until last night while staring at the lost trying to sleep.
I've been working on a piece of artwork of my Warlock character in World of Warcraft in a Tier 11 set (looks pretty much like a medieval executioner), but I have had some problems with the coloring and such, so I havent finished it yet.
I am so happy about the piece and the way I have made it, that I decided that I want to give it a go at 3D again and try make the same picture but only in 3D as well! It will require a lot of work and post-processing, but I think I can make it. :)
I would show off how the picture look so far though, but I would say it ruins a bit the fun! I will try to finish the picture soon though, because it really annoys me to see a good picture like that just rot in my CG folder...

Random

Been in random drawing mood lately, which is good. Last night I finished up a drawing of a character from the old assed serie I have been working on ages ago. Earlier I made a character from that serie as well, this time around this is obviously someone else with almost the same outfit. Here is the picture:

Like I said, it is a rather quick one, so I havent focused that much on making it look too pretty at all. I just wanted to try and draw an old character in a "new" style, since this character was drawn way back when everything just had to look like some silly anime stuff (not that my stuff doesnt look silly anymore! :P).
Either way, her name is Scarlett, obviously named after Scarlett O'hara because I have a thing for that name. Scarlett is like most of the other main characters in my story thingie a student who studies abroad in Japan in the *insert random japanese city name*. She was adopted by a british family, because she became an orphan at a very young age. Throughout her life she had to deal with some psychological problems, she was certain that she had some psychic abilities, but no one would believe her so she had to take a lot medication to keep the "strange thoughts" at bay.
One day she found out that she had relatives in Japan, but there was no exact trace to who they were and where they lived, but it motived her to learn more about the Japanese culture and decided to move to Japan to study at this international school. At this school she made many friends, both local and students who come from foreign countries, one person i particular, called Zoƫ, a partially french/american woman, became good friends.
Obviously since this is a totally magical girl ish crappleshizzle, she gets contacted by this strange woman who tells her that something is amiss at her school and she was chosen to protect her fellow students and friends and shit. She gets this random robe and rod-like weapon to beat the enemies senseless.

Oh yeah, and obviously her hair is dyed! That is why I made it look like the roots are growing out.. because its totally unnatural to have silly hair colors.

*aim*

So, I was working on a new artwork. I was really proud of it, until I tried shading it (I had already amde the basic coloring, so all I would need to shade it and it would be done.) so I got mad and decided to pull out another "old" project... And I finished it within 10 minutes. I only needed a few coloring here and there, and then it was done. Can't believe I didnt finish it before! So here it is:

This is my roomate and really good friend's character at World of Warcraft. Her name is Liora and the attire she has one the picture, isnt what she got in the game of course, but what my friend wanted her to look like, if she was a "real" hunter, if you get me. I tried to make some perspective in the picture, so it looks like she is having the bow right in your face, thus its blurryness. Atleast I think it is important to make sure to make it look proper in perspective, as I have seen many who have made a digital drawing and tried to show perspective without the use of depth of field or perspective blur.

Either way, enjoy this new work. Maybe in a few days another one will come up, if I manage to find out how to pull those shadings out. Argh!

Smokin' the ex

As the title suggest, I have finally become a little bit more creative! As in that I have actually drawn something! I am rather surprised with myself... Starting and finishing a drawing in the same day is unlike me, but at the other hand, I began drawing around 10pm, and now it is.... 3am. So it took me a good deal of a long time anyway. Either way, here is the drawing:

I came up with the random idea when I was thinking of drawing a character that was having a photo in her mouth. I wasnt sure how and in what context, but I quickly imagined that she was kind of "smoking" it with a matchstick close to it, but as seen on the picture, that was changed to a cigarette later (more to that in a momentos).
The story behind the piece is rather clichƩ; the girl was hurt by her ex, she kept the picture of him for a while, but then she decided to burn it in an untraditional way... By poking a cigarette to the picture while holding it in her mouth! Silly, I know, but I liked the idea anyway. :P
I found it cooler that she used a cigarette instead of a match, but I also like the idea with the match, yet it might look a little bit silly that way, I think, so I asked my slave, aka. boyfriend, for some help, although he is clueless when it comes to artwork, yet I think it was the right thing to do as he said with switcing out the match with a cigarette.
In case it isnt obvious, then I slightly choose the colors to fit the theme. I see orange as a fiery color like fire, so I put it together with "rage" or "anger" or "jealousy". While her green eyes and fingernails means more like a "break" on the anger or a fresh start, like a green sprout. Funny thing is, when I looked up the color meaning, they meant something totally different than I imagined:

Orange:
Positive: Steadfastness, courage, confidence, friendliness, and cheerfulness, warmth, excitement and energy
Negative: Ignorance, inferiority, sluggishness and superiority

Green:
Positive: Monƫy, health, food, nature, hope, growth, freshness, soothing, sharing, and responsiveness
Negative: Envy, greed, constriction, guilt, jealousy and disorder

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/109412

But I guess in the end we all have different ways to interpret things, right? Either way, I didnt really give the colors much thought, aside that the picture shouldnt be all orange/brownish, or else it wouldnt be able to catch your eyes, that is also why I choose green, mostly because it is complementary to red, which is also dominating the picture together with the orange, which makes it seem to stand out a lot. If you look for the green, then the green colors are mostly focused on areas that tells the story...
Her eyes are green, they look sad but they are leading you downwards and you will see the picture, check out the text, it says "I love you", but there is more green shit around it and its her nails, what is she holding in one of her hands? A lil cigarette to burn the crap out of the picture.
Oh yeah, did anyone notice the freckles and the fact she is a ginger? x) More red/orangeness ftw.

Wow, did I just spend half an hour writing an analysis of my own drawing? I think this is the first time I actually ever gave it that much thought to actually write a long ass of a wall of text to blab about a single picture... I think I should head to bed.

The creativity unfolds...

... sadly not in the drawing department!
For some reason when I finished playing Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening, I decided to play an old game by the same developers, BioWare, called Jade Empire. The storyline is a bet bleugh, the controls are bleugh... but I really like how they potrayed the asian culture and the style. It suddenly made me in such a creative mood that I fetched my old laptop and started up my foreverlasting novelization of my fantasy story. I doubt I will ever finish it in this lifetime when it took be way over 2 years to even finish editing what I already wrote (Imagine this... It was around 48 pages and after rewriting basically most of it, the story is so far 89 pages and I still need like 5 pages to rewrite!). Either way, I think I want to do some more concept art for my story, because I feel like I havent done enough, as well as those ideas I get my me and my friend's big project that still has to go out of development-hell...
Either way, it's slightly too late to start doing anything drawing related, or else I wont get any sleep, but expect there to be maybe a bit more active around here from now on! I hope...

*whack*

Okay, so creativity havent had it's place in my life as it used to. Damn school... But I managed to haul something out of my ass tonight, even when I didnt spend much time on it.

AAaaaaaaall the way back in 2001 I suddenly had a brainfart and decided to create a ginger-haired girl with a ninja-like suit. I was really happy about it and made a bunch of seriously-wtf-ish ugly characters to the story, but it has since developed to be a bit... prettier :P. Then I "upgraded" her and she now looks like at the picture above. Or well, this is how she look with my "modern" touch, she still had the same outfit, but I wanted to try make a quick drawing of how I would expect her to look like if I actually created her today.

Either way, the story is so "wonderfully" called Ninja Magic... Because it was about ninjas... with magics. (I know, it's a horrible title, but I was only 12 or 13 when I made this up...), so far I have made 2 "seasons", one where this particular character is the main character and one where there is someone else. She is called Kasumi and ends up becoming this so called ninja thingie to defeat a group of devil worshipping cult that almost kills off all of her friends, until she finds out about her true powers and forges a spear that can defeat these cultists. In the second season she barely get any screentime because she is somewhere killing off evil doers, but she is legend among other ninja thingies, so she will of course have an appearance just to kick all evil's arses.

Anyways... Enough with the old school babbeling. I tried this different style because I remember back in the old days when I was drawing at some Oekaki Board (Oekaki means scetch in Japanese i thinks... These boards used simple flash drawing program thingie where you could draw pictures and artwork where other people could comment and tell ya what they think about your work, some even could show an animation of how you've drawn your picture), I sometimes tried a style called "color-dotting" where you would use dots to do the coloring or shadings, and that is what Iwas trying to do here. It didnt take me long to do this one though, I didnt bother to work hard on the lines, but I really like how this one came out anyway... I think I will do all the other characters as well!
But first... Bedtime. *falls asleep*

Friday, January 21, 2011

Oh yeah, I forgot...

... That I made this one in... I think 2008 or was it 2009? Either way, another one of the works I've done that made me rather proud, even when its just a "copy" (like, I didnt draw everything from my mind, but used a picture underneath in Illustrator :P)

Wall of ancient braindamage

Just for fun, then I will post some of my old artwork. :P
Beware of terribly and ancient braindamage... Some of it are... *covers eyes* A bit assorted though, some drawn on paper, others in photoshop and then there is a single 3D one. I have a lot more drawings, but then I would need to scan them... I will do that someday 8D.

First post evurrr

Yay, my blog is up. I guess that means that I am forced to spam it with lots of artwork so people can see what I have been doing.

My frist artwork should probably be the concept art for a game that is bound to be released at Kongregate by a couple of classmates. They asked me if I could draw a cat with a toast tied to its back... Sounds a little bit strange,  but I am looking forward to the result. :)
Here is one of the concept pictures I've drawn:

A very happy cat huh? Since the cat had to be kinda fat and everything, I thought of a fat, disgruntled persian like cat with double chin and fat legs. The biggest challenge would be to create it in 3D... Not that I think its impossible! I hope lady luck loves me when I will be working on it :)...

On the side note, I am working on another project. I am drawing potraits of characters from me and my best friend's long-in-development comic, I might post the final result here when I am done with it. :D
